Can
antacids neutralize stomach acid more effectively than baking soda?
Aim:
My aim for this experiment is to see if antacids are more more
effective than Baking soda to neutralize excess stomach acid!
Hypothesis:
I
think that antacids like tums or rolaids will be more effective than
baking soda maybe because more people know about antacids for
indigestion since it has a higher pH and have never used baking soda
for these problems since its weaker.
Variables:
Independent-
We will be changing the antacids.
Dependent-
We will be measuring the water, the HCL, the weight of antacids and
baking soda and how many drops it takes to neutralize!
Control-
We will be keeping the weight of the antacids and baking soda and the
amount of water and HCL so its a fair test.
Apparatus-
HCL,
Water, test tubes, pipette, antacids, Baking soda, Mortar impestal
and a buerette and stand and test tube holder.
Method-
1)First
put your goggles on for safety!
2)Then
make sure all your equipment is set out and ready to go.
3)After
that crush all your indigestion tablets and make sure they are the
same weight as the baking soda!
4) Then
prepare 6 test tubes where 3 of them have water and the other 3 have
HCL and make sure they are measured with the same amount
5)Put the
same amount of Baking soda and indigestion tablets that you crushed
before and put it in the water.
6)Wait
until it dissolves in the water and then one at a time you take the
pipete and take it in then one by one put it in the test tubes of
HCL!
7) Then
you add a few drops of universal indicator and see what the pH colour
is and see if it has neutralized
8)After
your done record your results and see which is more effective!
